Baby’s First Beheading

“Under Color of Authority,” originally aired February 7, 1994.  Nostalgia and spoilers within.

HEREEE WE ARE (really, this is my friend Joan’s idea.  She’s doing some of the Highlander watches with me now.  CAN’T BELIEVE I MISSED THE OBVIOUS)

Thankfully, Richie likes riding his motorcycle around in dark alleys, because some woman being chased runs out to him for help.  And she’s being chased by an Immortal (Mako).  He should be used to this sort of thing by now.  He takes her to Mac’s to get patched up and get answers.  Thankfully, Mac knows everyone from even vague descriptions, and we go back to prospecting times.  Mac is friends with an adorable prospector who for one night ran with a gang and is now being hunted by a bounty hunter.  We all know that’s not going to end well.

Back in the present, we learn that the girl (Laura) is being bounty hunted by Mako because of her abusive husband Earl.  (#goodbyeearl).  But Mac is all concerned because while she may be telling the truth, he assumes Richie is going to get hurt because of her and Mako.  And Mac cares about Richie #1.  Aww, family.

DUDE, MAKO, YOU DO NOT INTERRUPT SOMEONE’S SHOWER.  RUDE.  JOAN’S RIGHT, THEY SHOULD ADD A NEW RULE TO THE GAME: SHOWERS ARE OFF.  LIMITS.  At least he doesn’t kill Richie.  He just interrogates him.  IN THE SHOWER.

MacLeod tries to invoke Watcher Powers to help him (because Joe is a good P.I.??) and to get Richie to back off a little because thanks to his prospector friend, Mac knows that confronting Mako only ends in tears (although Mac really could have taken that bullet for his friend).  Richie and Laura sneak out (and then have sexytimes because YOU KNOW).  Joe actually did a good job at research and realized that Laura killed Earl (I think nobody’s surprised by that), so she’s wanted for that, you know.  Richie starts crossing into that “well, I’ll just kill everyone after her!” mode, which as we know, makes Mac frown.  Unless he’s the one doing it.  Because hate Mako all you want, he’s just trying to follow the law to the letter.

Although, Mako goes more than a little overboard by hitting Laura with a car to catch her.  Sigh.  At least in prospecting times you can have an honorable duel.  So Richie challenges Mako to a duel, Immortal style.  And he gets his first beheading.  Maybe this will make Richie more law-abiding.

Those construction workers are going to have a mess in the morning.

The next day, Mac kicks Richie out, and everything is sad because Richie feels that weird new life of being Immortal again.  Poor Richie.  Please don’t go.  Mac is feeling it, too, because he gives his single dramatic tear while I give sad sounds directed to my TV.  Sad.  Everybody is sad.  Richie’s all grown up and has to be released into the wilds of the Game.  ;_;

See you next time, after I get over these feels.
